Committing sins deliberately after doing prapatti

Namaskaram.

I was checking for FAQs for prapatti in

http://srivaishnavan.com/faqs/prapatti/#faq1-8

Discussion on a person committing sins deliberately after doing prapatti and does not do prayaschitta. What will be the type of punishment in such cases?

The reply is given as

” The punishment can be that the person becomes lame or blind. Or, he may lose children or grandchildren or near relatives. In fact, even inability to go to temples …………….  In any case, one who has done prapatti, will definitely attain moksha, at the end of this life.  ……………..  God also gives comparatively lighter punishment, even for deliberate sins committed after prapatti. “.

The initial reply is highly disturbing and discouraging to take up prapatti. Subsequent detail mentioned is contradicting to the initial reply.

I hope the details given may be by some learned person.

Srimate Ramnujaya Namaha,

Swami, in general sin is  defined as any act/thought/speech which is displeasing to Perumaal.

So there are different gradations and types of sins, the above stanza is referring to which category or type of sins?

enpanifan swamy,

The link is on FAQs on prapatti. I believe you would have viewed the link indicated.

No details on the types of sin is referred in the above stanza. It is given generally. It is started with bigger punishment details. Whenever a new person refers this, he will be taken back. I too is perplexed on seeing this and hence posted here for clarification.

On the sidelines on your statement ::

“So there are different gradations and types of sins”

Can you throw light on this.

Namaskaram Swami

One does prappati after realising the pain, sufferings and also of knowing the real nature of samsaram, after due time the suffering goes off , one learns more about prappati, Bhagwan, udayavar, purva acharyas and azhwars, along with their charitrams.

Thereafter, the Saranagata becomes even more staunch in his devotion towards Emperumanar and Emperuman.

Once or twice, knowingly or unknowingly when one commits a sin Bhagwan forgives and seeing this nature or (Vatsalya Kalyana Gunam) of Bhagwan, the saranagata makes a firm resolve, of not committing anything wrong the next time, as he believes, knowingly having done a sin, I can accept the pain but I can’t afford to see my Emperumanar and Emperuman’s Face doleful , as they do not like me doing this.

Consider the eg of Bharata Azhwan, when he heard the news of Sri Rama was sent to exile, he could not bear it, as being separated from Rama was in itself a wrath than when he was demonized in every possible way by Ayodhya Vasis .

I know a few who took pancha samskaras and do not follow the prescribed procedures. Some take non satvic food. Is violating the procedure and taking non satvic food are considered sins?.

When I asked one of my relative who read and listens to vaishnava scriptures regularly, why he has not taken pancha samskaras, he replied that the procedures are strict and if he do not follow them, it will be sin to the acharya.

My doubt on sin and associated punishment is on two things.

  1. Violating the procedure after pancha samskaras and
  2. The sins what any human carries out including the one who took pancha samskaras.

” why he has not taken pancha samskaras, he replied that the procedures are strict and if he do not follow them, it will be sin to the acharya” .

It is absolutely true of what your relative stated, but one must appreciate such thinking, as one who feels concern for Acharyan, when not adhering to the prescribed way of living after saranagati.

“But why your relative has put his own life at stake for several Janmas”.

When an individual is dedicated in for attaining Moksham, he does everything possible upto his limits of what is prescribed  by the Acharyan, not as a Margam but as an Aagya( Order) which will definitely make Divya Dampathis and Acharyan’s Thiru-ulam Happy.

And Adiyen is pretty much sure, just start with a firm belief, with just one step, rest will be taken care of by Bhagwan and Acharyan’s Kataksham, in completion.

Today Swami, in en pani mentioned, of medicine and Vacine for Karmas, do listen to it, Adiyen will just provide the excerpts.

Swami stated, Medicine is like Pryaschittam for any sin and Vaccine is like doing what is prescribed for not allowing the sin to enter.

Ramanuja-ParaKalandasan swamy,
Namaskaram.

Your statement :
“”when not adhering to the prescribed way of living after saranagati””
I am really concerned about this.

I am trying to get more information, studying and analysing so that I can take appropriate decision. I strongly believe, I will get His guidance.

I listened to the audio.

Jayaram Swami,

On a lighter note, is it wise to commit a sin deliberately after doing ‘prapatti’?

Wouldn’t that mean ‘prapatti’ sanctions committing sins ? It also gives a very wrong connotation for people to think they can freely live the way we want.

If we know something is a sin and still do it, is it fair on our part to expect bhagawan to show his mercy on us, though we can always fall at his lotus feet and beg his pardon.

Also as ‘enpanifan’ swami has rightly pointed out, we cannot fully weigh it until we relate it to the type of sins.

Kindly forgive if there are mistakes in my viewpoint.

Srimate Ramanujaye Namaha,

To add on, any current new sins whenever done will bear a reaction, irrespective of if one has done sharanagathi or not. What the link you have shared states is since a sharanagathan has already cleared his old stock of sins, Perumaal will ensure he clears the current new stock before going back to Vaikunta.

For a non-sharanagatha, those sins can wait to be bear fruits in subsequent lives.

So there is no need to worry.

Regarding different types of sins.. Sins in general, swami and acharayas describe as that which displeases the Lord. So different actions will displease the Lord in different extent.. like eating non-satvic food may not help us remain focused in sat vishayam to learn scriptures or to do kainkaryam so Perumaal may be slightly displeased.  But if some body does more displeasing acts like theft, murder etc.. those acts affect other children of Perumaal.. So the effect of such sins are much larger..

But as stated above reactions are there even if one does not do sharangathi.

enpanifan swamy,

Thanks for the explanation.

I think those who prepared the answer in the website should have clearly mentioned rather than indicating major reactions of sins at the starting itself.
