Dasarathy swamy, humble namaskaram to you.
What you say is like “before going to the ophthamologist my house was clean. But after going to the doctor my house is very unclean”. Before we were not aware of the dirt around; now we are able to see even a tiny speck of dust around.
Before surrendering to acharya our life was going karmadhina, and we are blind to our faults. Our sense enjoyment, anger, attractions and attachments etc. are all considered ‘normal’ and so we don’t register them as faults. Even if we become aware of our faults we tend to justify it. We think whatever we did has a reason and therefore is correct. We almost think we are ‘perfect’ (atleast I used to think so).
But once we surrender at the feet of our acharya, by his blessings we become humble and we become aware of our faults. Humility (karpanyam) is one of the essential qualities of saranagathi. And as we realise our faults we also realise I am completely incapable of giving up these faults by my own effort; I have to depend on Perumal. Our dependence on Perumal for protection and maintenace deepens. Then by acharya anugraham we will be able to do only things that are pleasing to Perumal and give up all things that are not pleasing to Perumal. Gradually one after another all the six atributes of saranagathi will be bestowed upon us and we can completely surrender to Him.
adiyen dasan.
PS: There is one another possibility for faults to become greater; that happens when we have committed aparadh to a Vaishnava. I don’t think that is the case with devareer; if that were the case one wouldn’t even have the ability to share this with others and seek help. adiyen dasan.
