I have heard somewhere that the effects of karma manifests fully beyond the age of 12. Until then also the effect of karma is there but it happens in a milder way. From personal experience I feel the same way; many of the situations / events I faced in childhood seems to be like a milder version of karmic reactions. To be a little more descriptive, a certain configuration of planetary positions is likely to cause accidents and head injury during that dasa period. I happened to pass through this dasa during early childhood and during that period I had quite a few injury related hospital visits! Similarly other things / events also seem to match.

My understanding of the whole thing is, as long as we identify ourselves as a dependent of our parents, as someone protected by them, the karmic reactions are superficial. As age increases our sense of “I”, “ME” and “MINE” grows and karmic reactions take full swing. When we get hit enough by life, and by acharyan anugraham realise ourselves as a property of Perumal and identify ourselves as belonging to HIM & protected by HIM, then again our karma takes a milder form the rest of our life; this is just the prarabhda karma; all other karmas are burnt off!
