Swamy, adiyenin namaskarangal.
By acharya’s anugraham it is possible to see the positive in EVERYTHING. But what we see and how we extract is the key.
” எப்பொருள் யார்யார்வாய்க் கேட்பினும் அப்பொருள் மெய்ப்பொருள் காண்ப தறிவு” என்பதன் உண்மையான அர்த்தம் என்ன?From Srivatsan
மெய் பொருள் is Perumal. Whatever we see or hear must been seen in line with His teachings/ instructions as received from our Guru. If some random person (eg. a character in a movie) says something, if it is in agreement with what we have heard from our acharyan, then we should thank that person in our mind for reminding us of our acharyan’s words. So, positivity does not mean somehow extract some positive message from garbage source like cinema. The garbage remains garbage. But you use the opportunity to connect to the real positive which is acharyan’s message.
Then what should I do when I see some ‘அபத்தம்’ in a movie (or real life). Let us take this example. In the 60s and 70s, all heros in the tamil movie industry tried hard to present themselves as ‘good’ people. They will not drink or smoke on screen. And even in personal life if they had the habit they will try to hide it from the public. In the 80s the hero characers started driking and smoking for ‘style’ factor. Particularly drinking is shown in rare occassions. But after 2000 it is mandatory for every movie to have a song where the drunken hero puts one kuththu-dance, even if totally unrelated to the rest of the movie. This is because the movie financiers are the same people as liquor barons. So, such songs are good advertisement for them to lure more and more youngsters into drinking. Over the past 15-20 years they have had tremendous success in this approach. Now a days heros do not try to hide that they drink in their private life. In fact they claim this openly and boldly. (One popular hero even openly said his father introduced him to drinking when he was in class 10 or so). Then what will his admirers do?
Now, what is the positive message I take from this? The message is, “Yes, my Acharyan’s words are true. Kali-yuga is indeed a fast degrading age. Just in the past 20 – 30 years so much degradation has happened. Utterly low people are all assuming leadership roles and influence the life of others. It is not possible to fight against this force of kali. The best way is to take shelter of acharyan and Perumal and deeply strengthen my determination not to be born again”.
With this message, whatever ‘bad’ thing I have come across has had a positive impact on me – positive because it reminds me of my acharyan’s words / Perumal’s instructions.
Similarly we can do in other situations and see the மெய் பொருள்.

PS: Let me use this opportunity to share a little more on this. We have an important responsibility to protect our children from the influence of these movies. Whether our children watch it not or not, they must be made aware of the potential danger of these movies, and the importance of sticking to acharyan thiruvadi (his instructions).
I happened to watch a movie called ‘Mission Mangal” which is a dramatised version of ISRO’s effort to send satellite to Mars planet. Apparently it is a big achievement for ISRO for being two reasons: 1. very low budget; 2. first country to succeed in first attempt.
At the outset the screen play is very patriotic, encourages people to learn science and become scientists and ‘inspiring’…. kind of movie that will make everyone proud of our country. I am sure many parents may consider this movie a “must watch” for their children because it motivates them in academic interests and instils some patriotism. But unknown to the parents some poison is also sowed in the story line …. which is totally totally unwarranted.
- They hero scientists is upset that the weather is bad and the rocket can not be launched on time; guess what he does? he gets drunk; and he gets into a brawl in the metro. So, they are teaching our children i) when you are upset, you can drink ii) even scientists the intellectuals of the society get drunk; so there is nothing wrong about it. iii) if the hero is drunk because of genuine distress, it is okay to misbehave in public places and get into a brawl; he has the right to do so; we must sympathise with him. It is okay for us also to get drunk and do improper things when we are drunk.
- One of the respectable woman scientist’s daughter is at the pub late night. The mother takes the father to the pub, they also drink, dance and drive back with the daughter. Thus the constantly fighting father-daughter relationship is set right by the mother’s intelligence! So, the lesson conveyed for our children is, if you go to pub late night without telling your parents, it is not wrong on your part; rather, you parents should understand your needs and they should connect to you by doing the same non-sense.
- Another respectable woman scientist is introduced in the story as a person who is wakign up from the bed with one of her boy friends.
So, this is the kind of role models that our movies are setting…. even a story line which could have been made so pure and nice by simply focussing on the academic rigour & perseverance of the scientists and the patriotism factor.
Many times in the movie they mention about past president Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam. But the characters they show in the movie are far from the impeccable role model Dr. Kalam was.
But we can not expect anything better from them. This is the way kali yuga is going to be… continuously worsening. We need to educate our children properly and protect them.
Anyways, there is one positive message for me from this movie: in the closing scences we hear the prime minister of the country speak in a public meeting: “In Ahmadabad, it takes Rs10 to go 1km by rickshaw; but our scientists have sent the satellite to Mars for paltry Rs6 / km”. If sending some gadgets to the next planet for a price of Rs 6 / km is so great, then how much more great is my acharyan’s anugraham to send me directly to Vaikuntha….. absolutely free…. not just free of cost…. but free of all sins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
