Are Vedic statements being precise or approximate a result of Rishi’s nature who recognized it and delivered to us?
To the limited extent I know, in some instances Vedas say precisely without giving any room for ambiguity – heard our Swamy saying about Upanishads – A student went in search of truth in East direction, west, north, south. In order to avoid any doubts that may arise in anyone’s mind, Veda goes one step further and says, north – east direction and all – so precise.
In some places, Veda statements convey approximate features – examples: Sahasra Sheersha Purusha: …..This is not interpreted as Thousand eyes, but as innumerable.
Another example is about measurement – one third approximately.
Some say Veda mantras present ever in cosmos and it was different Rishis who recognized and passed it on to us.
Interpersonal variations may be there in explaining different observations.
So, is it like, different Rishis due to their propensity for preciseness or approximateness, might have given mantras accordingly?
Or is it like what can be inferred approximately can only be told in an approximate manner..but here, one gets a confusion, where this …that …stanzas talk this way or that way… isn’t?
