Children remember things very easily after hearing once or twice. But as we grow up we lose this ability.
In our daily life we remember things we come across and use frequently. If we meet a person for the first time, we may not remember the name after a couple of days. But if we meet the same person a few times, every time our mind recollects and registers the name and after that we will not forget for a long time. Similarly for phone numbers; those numbers we use frequently from our memory we remember. Numbers we use from the phone’s memory, we forget! Channels we watch frequently we remember the numbers; others channels we don’t remember!
So, in order to remember the names and other details about Azhwars, or in general anything we hear from upanyasam, our Swamy has advised this simple method. When we hear the upanyasam, we can take notes on important details. After the upanyasam review the details and register in mind. If we do this over the next 3-5 days, then the information will get strongly registered in our memory.
This method is sure to work. It requires some sincere, consistent effort from us; but it definitely works. There is no other method, like a single ‘magic vallarai pill’ solution to this!
Another aspect that helps us remember better is to apply the knowledge immediately. For example, when we hear about the birth place of azhwars, check the location of the place in google map and also search for photos of the temple at that place. This kind of ‘application’ and engaging ourselves in the newly learnt knowledge improves our memory. Regarding Azhwars thirunakshatram, we can check the calendar to see on what days of the current month their Nakshatram falls. Such activities improves our memory. Like this, whatever we learn we can apply the relevance in our current situation, and by doing so we will remember easily.
