Thirumangai azhwar, in his Periya thirumozhi (Pasuram No. 1423 ), states due to fear of Yama, Markandeyar surrendered to Perumal.

மன்னு நான்மறை மாமுனி பெற்ற மைந்த னைமதி யாதவெங் கூற்றந்

தன்னை யஞ்சிநின் சரணெனச் சரணாய்த் தகவில் காலனை யுகமுனிந் தொழியா

பின்னை யென்றும்நின் திருவடி பிரியா வண்ண மெண்ணிய பேரருள், எனக்கும்

அன்ன தாகுமென் றடியிணை யடைந்தேன் அணிபொ ழில்திரு வரங்கத்தம் மானே,

This is not in line with the general belief that Markandeyar surrendered to Lord Siva to get saved. Since it is clearly mentioned that Markandeyar surrendered to Perumal, the point that Perumal is antaryami to Siva is not appropriate here. Hope in both the cases, same Markandeyar is referred.
