How to deal with differences of opinion/approach towards lord

Hare Krishna! Aneha koti namaskaram!

Please share practical tips/advices on how to deal with differences of opinion, in approaching the lord @ home. To provide some context, Adiyen follows vaishnavism and at home, different maargams are practiced. Since their pursuit is getting distracted to worldly affairs, Adiyen ‘ends’ up in claiming superiority of ‘vaishnavism’ though the intention is not to claim any superiority. And sometimes it makes feel guilty that why force/push someone ? How can these differences be dealt in a ‘constructive’ way ?

Swamis please share thoughts & advice.

Aneka Koti Namaskarams Swami!

Here is Adiyen’s view.

Every Jivatma is Anadhi. Lord Sriman Narayana is our only relative. We are all driven by our karma. Though we live in groups in the name of family, individual karma drives everyone.

So, we cannot make anyone realize or understand through debates or by force. Only thing we can do is keep telling them the glory of Lord Sriman Narayana without hesitation. One day, they will realize or they may not realize in this birth. Knowingly or unknowingly, we are all moving in the path of Moksha naturally. But, in which birth we attain it is the question.

We may keep telling that the life is pain and Moksham is our ultimate destination. We may also keep saying that Lord Sriman Narayana is granter of this and is Antaryami of other Gods also. One day, by grace of Acharyas and Lord Himself, they will realize.

First Sutra of Brahma Sutras say, “Athatho Brahma Jignyasah”. “What next? Let us search God.”, if I interpret this correctly.

Human life is always driven by the question, “What next?”.

We are born. What next? Study. What next? Earn. What next? Marry. What next? Give birth to Children. What next? Save money for them. What next? Take care of grand children. What next? Die and move to next birth.

In Katopanishad, Nachiketan says his father, “Humans are just born and die like plants and animals. Observe how intelligent people live and follow them.” Intelligence mentioned here is not material but spiritual intelligence.

Before a human fixes Lord Sriman Narayana as priority in life, his current life is finished. Few people say, Bakthi is only for old age, after finishing all duties.

This question, “What next?” stops, when we get satisfied in life with what we have as far as materials are concerned. At one stage, when all his needs are satisfied, a Jiva thinks, “What next? Let me learn about Brahmam.”

At this stage, their interests will naturally turn towards scriptures and God. They will be driven by God Himself towards Moksham. As they read scriptures, they will automatically understand Lord Sriman Narayana as granter of Moksha and turn their interests towards Him. They start doing Bakthi on Him.

They will automatically come out of debating mode to learning mode.

Till such time, please be patient. As Krishna says in Bagavad Gita, “All prayers to any God, reaches Him at the end.”

At the same time, it is responsibility of a family head to guide family members in right path, if he knows right path himself. So, one shall keep telling them without expectations. Saying is our duty but making them accept is not our responsibility.

Expecting them to follow what we say is also expectation on results, which in turn can affect our Moksha.

So, let us keeping telling what we know and leave the responsibility of their acceptance to Lord Himself. But, we shall develop patience to tell them again and again.

Aneka Koti Namaskarams Swami,

Here are few ideas. I request others to please consider this as personal suggestions to Shri Krishna Daasan Swami and Adiyen does not have any intention to debate on which God is superior.

Swami,

Please observe family member’s interest and level of understanding and act accordingly.

If they are interested in going to temples, take them to as much Divya Desams as possible and explain the sthala puranams. Explain the sthala puranams before they see His Archa Vigraham and not after seeing Him. His Archa Vigraham will attract them.

If they are interested in stotras, teach them Stotras like Varaha Kavacham with meaning, where Lord Shiva himself explains the glory of Lord Sriman Narayana to Lordess Parvathy.

If they are interested in Puranas, you may teach them Satvika Puranas.

If they are interested in learning Suktams, you may teach them with meanings.

Narayana Suktam directly states, “Narayana Parojyoti ratma Narayana Parah! Narayana Parabrahma Tattvam Narayana Parah! Narayana Paro Dyadha Dyanam Narayana Parah!”

Vishnu Suktam states, “Vishnore Yat Paramam Padam”.

Even Durga Suktam states Durga as Vishnu Sakthi.

If they are interested in songs, you may train them on Annamayya Keerthanams, Puranthara Daasar Keerthanams etc, which preaches Vedanta and Bakthi through songs.

If they are interested in Upanishads, you may preach them Upanishads like Muktikopanishad, which is preached by Lord Rama Himself to Lord Hanuman.

Lord Rama says, “when one dies at Kashi, which is Brahma Naadi of world, Lord Maheswara appears in front of Jiva and chants Rama Taraka Mantra in right ear of Jiva. As a result, his sins are cleared and he reaches my Vaikunta.”

Rama Taraka Mantra was in fact preached to Lordess Parvathy by Lord Shiva. “Sri Rama Rama Rameti Rame Raame Manorame Sahasranama Tattulyam Rama Nama Varanane”.

You may ask them to chant this daily.

If they are interested on other Gods and if you are really concerned about changing them, preach them the glories of Lord Narayana from the mouth of God they pray.

However, at all times, don’t forget to remember that we are just tools and the acceptance of our family members is only in the hands of Lord Himself. Preach but don’t expect acceptance in return.

Kindly forgive if I have taken more rights on you to give a direct answer. Just told something from my Sittrarivu as a well wisher.

Awaiting tips from Shri Velukkudi Swamy.

Dhanyosmi swami for all the answers and all points taken, importantly, ‘having no expectation in preaching’. Outwardly, it appears that the ‘sadana’ will be easy if everyone in the family follows same path but the bitter truth is, the ‘sadana’ can only be strengthened by such challenges whether they are from with in the family or from outside. There is more to discuss on this topic but Adiyen feels it will be better if its taken offline since the topic touches upon few ‘sensitive’ aspects of different sections of religion (in reference to swami’s note in the beginning of the 2nd response).

Aneka koti namaskarams Swamy

Who are we to change them? Nammazhwar said “Avar Avar vidhi vazhi adai nindranarEy”. As usual examples are there Swamy Alavandhar was brought back into sampradhayam. For a reason, that from being a SriVaishnavite if we deviate we have to come back.

Meaning good to bad – not ok
bad to good – ok.

Tomorrow being Swami Alavandhar’s thirunakshatram (birthday).

“Alavandar Thiru Nakshatram, Pournami U.Shada 17:55, Shukla-Chaturdasi 14:00, Sidh, SUN : 6:15 AM – 8:15 PM, Rahu : 18:30 – 20:15, Yama : 13:15 – 15:00, Guli : 16:45 – 18:30, Karkata/Adi,”

Similarly let anyone taste anything it has to come back to Sriman Narayana.

Sarva deva namaskAra:
keshavam prathi gacchathi
AakAshAth pathitham thOyam
YathA gacchathi sAgaram

Like river water goes to sea
All kinds of devotion goes to Keshava

Secondly,
Maturity will come by time. I want car then only will think of Perumal. Materialistic desires are no easy to get awaty with.

Demi Gods help reach desires soon but side effects will be there like English medicine.

Perumal Krishna is like Ayurveda slow & steady only. No side effects.

Hare Krishna!

Keeping aside the topic (since its leading controversial direction), was that ‘Alavandar’ or ‘Embar’ who was brought back to sampradhayam ?

Why controversy? Adiyen.

Its how we perceive things. Adiyen is not qualified to preach or force anyone even if it’s my own son. I just recite shlokas and he picks it up.

Let him ask questions when he grows up and am gathering all possible answers.

Am not here to change anyone. First question of preaching is adherence. Did we live that saintly life? If yes, we can preach.

Velukkudi Krishnan Swamy lives by example. All our Acharyas lives by example.

If I say to my son do this, first question he will ask “How many times did you do samitha dhAnam?”

I am expecting such question when he grows up. I will show Velukkudi Swamy and say l”ook son be like that Swamy”

Then he will be convinced

Regarding Alavandhar

https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/guruparamparai.wordpress.com/2012/09/01/alavandhar/amp/

“We have already seen in the previous article how maNakkAl nambi reforms ALavandhAr and brings him back to srirangam to make him the leader of our sampradhAyam. Once he comes to srirangam, he becomes a sannyAsi and starts propagating our sampradhAyam. Many become his sishyas”

Hare Krishna!

Aneha koti namaskaram swami. Agreed swami, one has to implement the teachings and be a living example before trying to preach something to others.

By just preaching and not following it will only bring distrust on what we speak. Our swami says, even if you don’t preach, others can look at your behavior and learn a lot.

But the original question is slightly different swami, let us please close that considering the fact that the discussion is in open forum and not a private conversation.
