Aneka Koti Namaskarams Swamy
Here is Adiyen’s understanding.
Kenopanishad is called Kenopanishad because it starts with a question, “Kena”. Directed by whom does our senses, mind and prana function?
In the next slokas, Upanishad answers that everything functions because of Brahmam (Lord Sriman Narayana).
In later section, it also gives a story where Devas like Agni and Vayu could not even show their power on a grass, when Brahmam slightly withdraws His hold from them.
So, though both Jivatma and Paramatma are sentient beings, Jivatma is only capable of choosing his path using Buddhi, with limited Independence he has. Lord Sriman Narayana who is Antaryami of Jivatma, is the real functioning agent. In case He withdraws His powers from a Jiva (which will never happen), a Jiva is equivalent to dead though he may be a conscious being.
This should be understood clearly. Everybody and everything is functional right from Chaturmuka Brahma to a worm, only because of presence of Lord Sriman Narayana as Antaryami.
This is the highest sadhana through Vedantic knowledge, a Jiva can attain in this world on reading and practising Upanishads. By feeling this, one really understands the superiority of the Lord over Jivas and sheds the feeling of self.
We try to surrender several times but we revert back. Why?
Our desire to surrender on one side and our Ahankara on another side.
What is Ahankara?
Feeling ourselves as separate entity and assuming ourselves as independent functional being. We forget our dependency on God at times though we remain a devotee and start worrying again about results of our actions. Here, our Ahankara wins us.
The Jivatma tries to surrender as he has devotion but it is not a real surrender because we keep worrying about results even after surrender. However, this is a positive sign as many people are not yet aware of these terms.
When our complete dependency on Lord Sriman Narayana is understood and when a Jiva feels that, “I am incapable of functioning myself, I can only make choices but I am functioning as directed by Him”, we win our Ahankara and complete real surrender is possible.
Hence, real surrender is possible only once. Till such time, a Jiva may attempt and revert back which is not considered as real surrender at all.
One may ask, if Brahmam is functioning agent, then why should Jivatma bear karma?
Brahmam is uniformly directing both good people and sinners in the path chosen. Jivatma make a choice using his buddhi and Brahmam directs the Jivatma in the path chosen by him. The responsibility of choosing the path lies with Jivatma and hence the fruits of karma also to be accepted by Jivatma.
Paramatma is always ready to take a Jivatma to Vaikuntam. But, cooperation from Jivatma is always expected. If Jivatma chooses the path of Moksha, it becomes very easy to Brahmam to move Jivatma towards Moksha.
If we keep making choices ourselves, it may be an obstruction as Paramatma directs us as per choices made. Hence, the very purpose of surrender is to allow Paramatma to freely act on us and move us towards Moksha. We are giving total responsibility to Him and remain worry free.
Adiyen just stated what is understood from Vedanta. It may or may not match with Srivaishnava Sampardayam.
Kindly forgive mistakes if any.
