Ramanuja-Paraklan swamy, namaskaram.
in a recent enpani our swamy has clearly said that karma does not determine every minute detail; karma determines the play field and we with our present intelligence and thoughts and actions influence what happens in the play field.
In our daily existence we do go through ups and downs in our enthusiasm and attraction to devotional engagements. This is becuase somehow unknown to us we have let ourselves get infected with rajo gunam and tamo gunam which triggers our past vasanas. This infection can be through food we take in, or through songs/ news/ talks shows/ entertainment etc we come across, circumstances we place ourselves in, etc.
Chatpers 14, 17 and some parts of 18 in Bhagavad Gita guide us on various aspects of satva, rajo and tamo guna. It is helpful to hear upanyasams on these sections, do the prescribed and avoid the proscribed. Also, forcing ourselves to sit through upanyasams (with our best focus possible) and forcing ourselves to sit through some bhajans or devotional songs are helpful to overcome the sick state.
No time in our life we can rest thinkning “now I am free from the influence of the three gunas; now I’ll always remain enthusiastic in devotional engagements”. Just like our body gets dirty everyday and we take bath everyday, so does our mind; so we have to regularly wash our mind with upanyasams and sahasranamam recitations everyday.
