It is good to see many started learning Sanskrit. Interest is also growing more. Sometimes interpretations that lord Vishnu gives mercy even without asking?

Vishnu is ever merciful but is it true that he forgives even without we asking?

Adiyen understand mercy should be given only after asking forgiveness by Manas or Vak or Karanam (mind, verbal or by action)

Lakshmi Narasimha searching Hiranyakashipu’s heart whether it is complete hatred or some soft corner left?

SriRam ready to give mercy to Raavan if he falls at his lotus feets.
SriRam gives mercy to Kakasuran when SitA mAtA turns crow’s head to face toward’s SriRam’s lotus feets
SitA mAtA tells SriRam to retaliate and not first one to attack the demons

That’s why India will not attack first! No first attack policy.

Sugriva asking forgiveness to Lakshmana Swamy for not fulfilling promise of searching Sita Mata

Or does Vishnu forgives even without asking?

My Bharya in past would say “By asking sorry will things settle? One has to follow”

What about Sri Maha Vishnu ? Does he forgive even without asking?

My understanding is this: do our father and mother forgive us even when we don’t seek forgiveness?

Yes they indeed forgive us in their heart; they don’t hold any grudge against us. But, they pretend as if they have not forgiven us and wait for us to seek forgiveness, because that is what is good for us. To realise our mistake and expression our regret to the concerned person is a very important quality. So, our parents do their best to teach us this quality.

Thaayaar and Perumal are many many times more compassionate than our parents. They forgive our mistakes immediately; otherwise, for the kind of mistakes and offences we do, we must be condemned to non-existence instantly. But They forgive us, let us continue to exists as a soul, and arrange multiple opportunities for us to realise our mistake and seek forgiveness.

In the kaakaasuran example, how long should it take for the grass-arrow to kill the target? But it does no kill instantly; it just keeps following without hurting… just to give opportunity to that fellow to seek forgiveness. Even after coming back to Them, he has not gained sufficient knowledge to seek complete forgiveness; hence Thayar fills up that gap by turning his head towards Lord’s lotus feet.

We must realise our mistakes and seek forgiveness. That is what is good for us.

Adiyen was worried, what if we started saying “Anyway SriRam will forgive, why should I ask sorry?”

It should not give wrong precedence.

Yes, swamy. This principle is very clearly stated in the two carama slokams: Vibheeshna saranagathi carama slokam and Bhagavad Gita carama slokam.

Ramayana 6.18.33

Sakrdeva Prapannaaya tavaasmeeti ca yaacate |
Abhayam Sarva-Bhutebhyo dadamy etad vratam mama ||

Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 18, TEXT 66:
sarva-dharman parityajya
mam ekam saranam vraja
aham tvam sarva-papebhyo
moksayisyami ma sucah

In both cases Perumal says “If you do this, I’ll give this”; just like our parents do to teach us some lessons.

However, we should also keep in mind Perumal’s complete svaatantriyam. He can voluntarily choose to grant forgiveness even to Putanaa. He could forgive Sishupala for 100 times without the later seeking forgiveness.

We can not use this as a short cut; these cases are exceptions and not the rule. Even the exceptions may be applicable only when the offence is directed at Him. If the offence is towards His devotees He doesn’t let us access the forgiveness easily. He makes us work for it and express our repentance explicitly.
