Prasad for crows

Namaskaram Swamy. In our family, there’s a practice of observing Saturday vrat. And our ancestors follow practice of first keeping prasad to crows on such vrathams. So we also follow the same for Saturday vratham and Ekadashi vratham. But recently heard from one bhagavathar Swamy that in Sri Vaishnavam there’s no practice of keeping prasad for crows. First we are supposed to accept prasadam after doing aradhanam for Perumal. Since we are slowly starting to practice Srivaishnavam by hearing devarir’s upanyasams and prabhandham classes, we kindly request devarir to clarify the same Swamy. Adiyen 🙏🏻

Amma namaskaram.

Yes, we prepare food for Perumal, offer to Him by the method learnt from Acharyas (eg. our Velukkudi swamy has prescribed simple method thro’ enpani), and then we can take Perumal’s prasadam.

We can also offer the prasadam to other organisms (including crow). They too will benefit eating prasadam.

Our Swamy has emphasised a lot about feeding other organisms in enpani 777 (https://www.kinchit.org/kinchit-en-pani/751-800/).

I guess, the Bhagavatha who advised was implying that Vaishnavas do not treat any demi god as superior, and feed the crow (in relation to that demigod). We surrender ourselves completely to Perumal, and all demigods are automatically satisfied by our surrender to their boss.

Feeding crows (and other birds and other animals like squirrels)  out of compassion for those souls is very much welcome in Vaishnava philosophy and lifestyle.

adiyen dasan.
