Ramayanam happened in which Tretayugam?

I have got a doubt in Ramayanam. I am reading Valmiki Ramayanam and spreading its glory to my friends also. There are five adhyayas given before Bala Kandam. In second Adhyaya, Naradha Maharishi says story of Somadattan to Sanatkumarar, which is present in Skanda Puranam. Somadattan or Souladasan was cursed in Krita Yuga to become an Asura, for dis-respecting his guru Gowthama Maharishi. But, Gowthama Maharishi says (in Krita Yuga itself) that listening to Ramayanam in prescribed procedure will give Sapa Vimochanam. Somadattan followed and benefited.

Ramayanam happened in Treta Yuga but was discussed and read in Krita Yuga itself as per our scriptures. Further, Sanatkumaras are born before Tretayuga and Narada Maharishi speaks on glory of Ramayanam to them. This causes a doubt whether Valmiki Ramayanam we read happened in Tretayuga of this Chaturyuga or happened in any of previous Chaturyugas.

Span of past Dwapara yuga itself is 8,64,000 years (2400 Deva years) as per Vishnu Purana. It may be 5000 or 6000 years after start of Kaliyuga of this Chaturyuga. If Ramayana happened in any of previous Chatur yugas, how may years back Rama and Piratti would have lived on this Earth? Any reference to this in our scriptures.

Our swamy Sri Velukkudi Krishnan swamigal explained about this in one of his devine discourses.
Yes, all 4 yugahs repeat after each maha pralaya kaal and the exactly the same number of years. 432000 years kali yuga including poorva and utira sandis. It gets doubled proportionately.
4.32 x 2 = 8.64; 8.64 x 2 = 17.2 and so on.. this repeats exactly each chathuer yugas.
Hence, they talk about Ramayana happened in earlier chathur yugas.

Question ID: 567 – Respected Swamy, Koti pranams unto your Lotus Feet!! I am very much interested to read books like Srimath Bhagavatham and Vishnu Puranam at my free time . Bhagavatham is ok since it entirely depicts krishna cheshtitham. But the vishnu puranam being an ocean utter confusion to follow. Though I used to read several times only to some extent I could understand. Here my question arises from that puranam that after so many kalpam that is with many chathur yugam being day and night rotates for Bramma, then whatever we heard as Mahabaratham and other mythological stories in this chathur yugam will be same in different chathur yugam. If so are the characters and names are same ? So many things I wanted to know from that puranas. The only solution is that we should listen this through the thiruppavalam of devareer in an Upanyasam especially in India and in chennai on the subject VISHNU Puranam. Yes. the happenings and characters may be repeated in each of the caturyugas. That discretion is purely based on the will of Paramatma. You can listen to adiyen’s lectures on Sri vishnu puranam which are released as cds
