Dear BhagavAta,

Adiyen would to share what adiyen has heard from Swami’s upanyasams with Acharya Krupai.

The meaning of “Gayatri” is the mother of Chandass (Vedic Meters) with different syllables (6 or 8 or 9 or 22 or 24 etc..).

Gayatri general meaning:
– gayanath: what is sung, giving of praise 
– trayate: preserves, protects, gives deliverance, grants liberation.

“Gayatri Mantra” is the Chandass (Vedic Meter) in which the Mantra is incorporated.

So there can be ANY number of Gayatri Mantras with different syllables.

The one such Gayatri Mantra that Vishwamitrar delivered is the “Sathvir (Sun demi-god) gayatri mantra as “…Om Bhur……”. Which has 24 syllables.

Like that there is “Vishnu gayatri mantra, Lakshmi gayatri mantra”….etc..and each has different syllables (words) referring to core Vedas.

Swami has said “Vishamitrar’ is “GAYATRI MANTRA DRASHTA” means one who VISUALISED that particular ‘Satvir Gayatri mantra’, didnot DISCOVER/INVENT, since these contents in these mantras exists Apourusham, since Vedas are Apourusham. Yes, Gathi is dad of Vishwamitrar, there us possibility that Gathi was chanting a different gayatri mantra referring to vedas based his preceptors.

However out of many Gayatri mantras the one that Vishamitrar visualised is considered as mother of all gayatri mantras, hence it is being implemented all all across the board in Santana Dharmam. When Srivaishnavas chant this Satvir (sun demi-god) gayatri mantra, they consider the Sriman Narayanan in the center of Surya Mandalam during Sandhya vandhanam….”Surya Mandala Madhyavarthi…….”.

Thus particular ‘Sathvir gayatri mantra’ became so popular that others gayatri mantras got forgotten. And when say Gayatri mantra, by default everyone considers this “Om Bhur….” only. This is like in old days when the ‘Distilled Water” was first manufactured by a company name called ‘Mineral’, and no other companies distilled water was that famous as Mineral company, please started using the companies name ‘Mineral’ for the Process ‘Distilled’ itself. Like, people started asking ” can I get a ‘Mineral water’ in a Aquafina company manufactured Distilled water.

In general these gayatri mantras can be chanted only by males of 1st 3 varnas who has done upanayanam. Others including females of all varnas are NOT chant as per shastras.

So Swami ThiruArangatthAmudhanaar gave for all varnas/females the ” PRAPANNA GAYATRI MANTRA” as “Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha” for this bhoolaka life necessities plus Kainkaryam and finally get Moksham ‘Sri Vaikuntam’ in Same birth, which the Satvir Gayatri mantra’ will provide only after janmas.

So,
* Vishwamitrar is the ‘Gayatri Mantra Drashta’ for Satvir Gayatri Mantra, and
* Swami ThiruArangatthAmudhanaar is the ‘Gayatri Mantra Drashta’ for PRAPANNA GAYATRI MANTRA, which the ultimate Gayatri Mantra of All times.
