What i have heard is Vasthu was made originally for Temples. So if we want to maintain our house like temples, then vaasthu shastra can be applied.
The current vastu is sometimes customized based on ones raasi and nakshatra, btu it is quite impractical to find a direction of house suitable for all family members.. so basic vaastu is sufficient..with help of a good reference person and then the rest can be managed by creating a spiritual atmosphere in the house by chanting, recitation and following other dharmic activities there.
